Privacy Policy
Last updated 18 September 2026
ChopCount ("we", "us") is operated by PBG LTD. This policy explains what we collect when you use the ChopCount app and website, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. Questions: support@chopcount.app.
Who this is for
ChopCount is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
What we collect
- Account data: your email address and an encrypted password, or the Apple/Google sign-in identifier you choose.
- Profile and plan: name, age, sex, height, weight, activity level, goal and pace, and the calorie and macro targets we calculate from them.
- Health and lifestyle logs: meals and portions, calories and macros, water, exercise, weight entries and streaks.
- Meal photos: pictures you take or upload so a meal can be recognised.
- Heritage settings (optional): the countries you feel rooted in, the country you live in now, and your preferred greeting language. These are used only to personalise food suggestions, greetings and the app's look. You can leave them blank or clear them at any time.
- Plans and lists: weekly goals, meal plans and grocery lists you create.
- Chop Coach messages: the questions you ask the coach and its replies.
- Technical data: app version, device type, language, crash and error information, and counts of how many AI requests you make each day so we can apply fair-use limits.
We do not collect your precise location. Location tags and camera metadata are removed from every photo on your device before it leaves the app.
Sensitive data
Nutrition, weight, exercise, meal photos and heritage information are sensitive to us and are treated as such. We process them only to run the features you ask for, on the basis of the consent you give when you enter them and the contract we have with you to provide the app. You can withdraw consent by deleting the data or your account.
How we use your information
- To calculate safe calorie and macro targets and show your daily progress.
- To recognise meals from photos or descriptions and estimate their nutrition.
- To answer your Chop Coach questions using your own recent logs and targets as context.
- To send reminders you switch on, and to keep your account secure.
- To fix bugs, prevent abuse and improve accuracy of our food data.
We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of processors who act only on our instructions: our hosting and database provider (which stores your account, logs and photos), and an AI provider that analyses the meal photo, meal description or coach question you submit. AI requests are sent without your name or email address, and we do not allow our AI provider to use them to train models. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect people's safety.
Storage and security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Every record is locked to your account by database-level access rules, so no other user can read or change it. Meal photos are stored in a private area and shown only through short-lived links that expire within an hour. Coach chat older than 12 months is deleted automatically. Where you sign in, you can require a second factor and sign out of all devices.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep your data while your account is open. You can download a copy of everything at any time from Settings → Privacy, and delete your account from Settings → Account or at /delete-account. Deletion is permanent and removes your profile, logs, plans, coach chat and meal photos immediately; encrypted backups roll off within 30 days.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may ask us for access to your data, correction, deletion, a portable copy, or to restrict or object to processing. Email support@chopcount.app and we will reply within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
International transfers and changes
Our providers may process data in other countries under appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
